Palaszczuk government’s broken promise is ‘cynical and it’s wrong’

Sky News host Peter Gleeson says political parties breaking promises on proper process in a “naked attempt to win favour at the ballot box” is cynical.

Mr Gleeson said although he personally supports it, voluntary assisted dying has become “politicised on the eve of the state election”.

“Why would a risk-averse Premier like Annastacia Palaszczuk bring voluntary assisted dying into the election fray just a few weeks out from polling day – one word, Currumbin,” he said.

“Instead of waiting for the Law Reform Commission to bring down its report into euthanasia in March next year, a re-elected Palasczcuk Government will fast-track laws to the February sitting of Parliament”.

Mr Gleeson said the politics behind it is based around the seat of Currumbin where former MP and LNP cabinet minister Jan Stuckey’s husband Dr Richard Stuckey is running as an independent.

Dr Stuckey has inficated he will preference Labor before the LNP because it has a “clear and conside policy around voluntary assisted dying, which he supports,” according to Mr Gleeson.

“There is a belief within Labor circles that candidate, Kaylee Campradt, can upset (LNP candidate Laura) Gerber off the back of Dr Stuckey’s preferences,” Mr Gleeson said.

“What I don’t like is political parties breaking promises on proper process in a naked attempt to win favour at the ballot box.

“It’s cynical and it’s wrong.”
