Freud's Id: Life's Accelerator
Sigmund Freud gets a lot of ridicule these days, much of it undeserved, and some of it attributable to the fact that he was writing over 100 years ago. It's no surprise that the mental health field has moved on a bit since then. But some of his concepts are undeniably useful, providing metaphors for human experience that can point the way forward in our lives. Among these is his tripartite view of human psychology and personality - the id, ego, and superego. In this three-part series we consider the nature of these entities and how they might fit into contemporary thinking about human psychology and psychotherapy.
