After a couple days break following the Teenage Cancer Trust show, the lads head to Germany for a one off gig as part of a secret gig held for Music Planet 2Nite, a French-German music show. The whole gig was televised and has since become one of the most popular 2002 gigs among fans. Only 700 attendees were in the audience but that doesn’t stop the band from delivering a great gig for the year, and there’s quite a lot to unpack here. The performance is very good as it is early in the year. Liam sounds a bit more strained than the last few gigs, and now and again you can hear him begin to sort of shout or give up on the end of sentences here and there. This would be a very common occurrence when his voice begins to pack in. There are some songs which do sound good from him tonight though, like Go Let it Out, The Hindu Times, and even Cigarettes & Alcohol. Noel and the rest of the lads are in good form, with some nice playing on the first couple songs in particular.

The setlist for the last few gigs have been extremely similar to the 10 Years of Noise and Confusion gigs, and that is pretty much the same story tonight, minus a few exceptions. Slide Away and Live Forever are out of the set at this gig, but both are replaced with new songs from Heathen Chemistry. Force of Nature sung by Noel, and Better Man sung and written by Liam. Better Man is a bit different to how it would sound later in the tour and even on the album, as the ending is pretty empty without Noel’s backing vocals. Force of Nature though is pretty much exactly the same. Being the debut performance of the track, Noel does struggle on some of the high notes, but his voice would soon warm up to this song later in the tour and he’d nail it at many gigs by that point. Over the next few gigs many old songs would get phased out, and tonight Fade Away and Champagne Supernova are the first to go. By June, the entire set would be revamped to something completely different to this one, which i’m quite glad about, as I find the song placements of this set quite strange.
