Welcome to the world of Vacheron Constantin. Today we're discussing the proper operation and care for the third generation Vacheron Constantin Overseas Small in 37mm rose gold. The Overseas Small, while an automatic timepiece, can be wound manually should the timepiece ever run down. From a stop, with the crown unthreaded from the case, turn it 20 times clockwise to begin the balance and the beat of the seconds hand. Once the watch is in motion, the natural action of the winding rotor will take over and wind the watch up to it's rated 45 hour power reserve. However, it can be manually wound to capacity by turning the crown. The subtle slip of the mainspring will indicate when the timepiece is full. As an automatic timepiece, it is impossible to overwind either by manually winding or letting the rotor wind the watch.

Once the watch is energized, withdraw the crown gently to the outermost setting position and advance in clockwise fashion to set the clock to the desired time. Once the time is set, it is important the crown is pushed back in and threaded into it's sleeve. Once the crown is back in place the watch has a water resistance of 150m. Vacheron Constantin stipulates that this rated diving depth is sufficient for shallow snorkeling, bathing and submergence. Vacheron Constantin urges against submerging or soaking the watch when the crown is in any but it's threaded position. Should the crown be out when submerged, or wet when winding, water can find it's way into the case and undermined the integrity of the watch. Should water ever be detected, it is important the owner takes the watch to a Vacheron Constantin dealer, boutique or service center to avoid catastrophic aesthetic and mechanical damage. They also recommend having the watch tested on an annual basis to ensure water resistance.

The Overseas features robust anti-magnetic protection thanks to a para-magnetic soft iron ring around the movement. The timepiece is protected from most conventional home or office magnetic flux densities up to 25,000amp. However, extreme fields such as those from MRI machines should be avoided. In the event the hairspring becomes magnetized and the time deviates, take the watch to an authorized dealer or boutique where specialized equipment will be used to demagnetize the movement.

This 3rd generation 2016 Overseas Small features a unique lug release system that allows rapid strap swapping between the vulcanized strap and alligator strap featuring the same hardware. These accessories can be swapped without tools with only a fingernail by gripping the lever under the lug, withdrawing from stationary position and lightly pulling on the strap. The watch can be swapped from strap to strap without tools and potential damage to the lugs. Simply slide the new strap into the space, hear the click and give a gentle tug to ensure the strap is in place properly.

It is important to have the watch exclusively serviced at a boutique, authorized retailer or authorized service center because only these agencies will have the trained personnel, factory parts and equipment to maintain the function and value of your timepiece.
