Greetings, and welcome to the world of Vacheron Constantin. Today, I'll be your guide to the Vacheron Constantin 1972 Prestige, an 18-karat white gold. This timepiece can be seen on our website, Govberg Watches, along with the entire Vacheron Constantin model line.

The best way to explain this watch, which is a tribute to 1972 original, is to start from the outside and work our way in. The timepiece is rendered in white gold and so is the matching 18-karat Maltese cross motif pin buckle. True to history, this watch, historically inspired, features a pin buckle with easy, on the fly adjustability to match, paired with a substantial and white gold screw fixed alligator leather strap.

The timepiece takes the essential shape of the 1972 watch built to celebrate the according of the Prestige de France award upon Vacheron Constantin, a first for a watchmaker. It's also significant to note that although the watch features tribute elements that recall the original, it is very much its own standalone entity with modern innovation, fit, finish, size and specification, starting with the case.

The essential trapezoid of the original is retained but with a number of refinements. The ratio of the longer side to the smaller side is equal to the golden section, or 1.618. This mathematical equation assures the essential appeal of the watch bolstered by a number of innovations including curvature not seen on the original. The [camper 00:01:36] of the case, which allows the watch to arc over the wrist, is one form of curvature added. Additional curves come in the form of the case flanks, which have been softened and feature corresponded softened and curved interior angles to the crystal. The watch also features a unique herringbone motif in metallic finish on the dial, supplemented by 5N rose gold dauphine hands at center with matching rose gold Maltese cross emblem at 12.

The timepiece features 3 ATM water resistance and the screw fixed case back attests the watch's conformity to the new Geneva Hallmark standards, which is a holistic set of rules applying to the finish, fit, material specification and performance not just of a movement but of the entire timepiece. The manually wound timepiece in this watch is the caliber 1,003, featuring 18 jewels and manufactured entirely in-house by Vacheron Constantin. It's engineering heritage and use in Vacheron Constantin watches dates back to the early 1950s, but executed entirely in 18-karat gold and featuring the Geneva Hallmark, the latest standard. This caliber is very much of a modern bent.

The watch is also ultra-thin thanks to the caliber, which is only 1.64mm thick. The entire watch itself ultra-thin at only 8.7mm thick wears easily underneath any tight sleeve or dress cuff. The timepiece, when manually wound to full power reserve, operates for 31 hours and featuring a very traditional movement architecture. It's a true combination of modern fit, finish and specification with vintage engineering elements and incomparable vintage-inspired style.

You can see this Vacheron Constantin 1972 Prestige on our website, Govberg Watches, along with the entire Vacheron Constantin family of model lines. Among Vacheron references, this watch is equal measure historically inspired and avant garde and charming reference to history that is very much of a modern specification.
