Is This Really "Just" Anxiety? - or is it some Other Illness?

For many of us dealing with anxiety issues there is this one question that keeps on popping up over and over again: Is this anxiety or is it another serious or even terminal illness? We believe that answering this question will finally bring us peace and eventually recovery….

A lot of us will spend hours every single day, researching and studying everything we can find about anxiety and eventually will always end up on websites completely unrelated. Medical articles, stroke forums, stories about people who suffered an heart attack, ALS expierences and all that kind of stuff was on my daily routine. It would often fuel my anxiety and fear! Completely consumed by these negative thoughts I would often end up at the doctors office to find some comfort. I guess many of you can relate. But was this approach ever successful? I guess not otherwise you wouldn’t be here right now.
You’ve got to keep in mind that we are in a state in which our general stress levels are tremendously elevated. Nothing or no one can assure us enough that these levels will just suddenly drop to where they should be. In conclusion this means that you are still highly stressed and in an alterted state. There is no way you can make the “what ifs…” when under high stress.
The only way to get rid of any doubt is by feeling better in the first place. Doesn’t seem to make any sense, right? What I am trying to say is that you must keep working with and implementing new stress coping mechanisms. Your fueling worries and the uncertainties will grow daily. Work against it and work on lowering it. Its going to be the only way out. By lowering stress you will begin to regain control over your rational thoughts, begin to accept anxiety as a fact and can start to live an anxiety free life again.
