A Common Cause of Anxiety that is Often Neglected
When it comes to anxiety recovery we often hear people talking about root causes and how getting to the bottom of it is a necessary step for any anxiety disorder recovery and finding long-term anxiety relief.
While I completely agree that anxiety can have so many different causes and be the result of a wide variety of triggers, I do think that our perception of possible root causes may be a bit skewed.
When we hear someone talking about a root cause we often find ourselves thinking about some deep-rooted emotional trauma that needs to be dug up because we have buried it somewhere deep in our subconscious. For me, I believe, that for a lot of people dealing with anxiety issues a root cause is a lot less hidden and actually pretty “obvious” in a sense. Many of us kind of know what has caused us a lot of stress and tension and we also know what we would need to change in our lives and might have neglected for most of our life.
As so many people experience their first onset of anxiety in their teens and early adult life, I have the suspicion that it has a lot to with “growing up” and taking on responsibilities and finding our own purpose in life.
We find ourselves in a part of life where we suddenly face a lot of changes and kind of have the urge to find our own identity and have the urge to express ourselves. However, we might be hesitant to do so as we might fear what others around us think. In that process, we lose touch with our true selves and kind of feel lost and hopeless.
We start working in a job that we dislike because it is kind of expected in society, we hang out with people we don’t really like because it’s the norm and so we start living a life that isn’t what we have ever envisioned for ourselves before.
I think that for a lot of people dealing with anxiety and all the symptoms it has become their sole mission to make the symptoms stop so that they can move on and continue their life as it was before.
However, I believe that long-term recovery is the result of working on building self-confidence, living a healthier lifestyle, and setting up frameworks in place that will help you build a life that you truly can be proud of.
This process is something that, once started, will be so fulfilling and motivating that it completely eradicates all anxiety along the way.
