New Wave Brits OMD & ABC GOOD ROCKIN' TONITE 1985

Following the departure from CBC Vancouver TV's GOOD ROCKIN' TONITE in 1985 by host Terry David Mulligan, GRT featured guest hosts for 5 shows, and this was eventual host Stu Jeffries audition for the role. The interviewed guests were two of the UK's most popular New Wave bands, ABC and OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark). New Wave was regarded as the new underground music during the late 1970s into the 1980s. It tended towards experimentation, lyrical complexity, electronic and more polished production than "punk." Other UK groups included the Police, Depeche Mode, Culture Club, Simple Minds, Human League, The Jam and Arcadia. In the US it was Blondie, Talking Heads and the Ramones. ABC, represented here by co-founder Mark White, made the charts with Broken Arrow, The Look of Love and Be Near Me. Founders Andy McClusky and Paul Humphreys of OMD talk about their music which culminated in their international hit If You Leave (for the film Pretty in Pink). They were regarded as a pioneering, influential and popular act of the synthpop genre, influenced by Kraftwerk and Brian Eno. Music videos have been removed.
