It’s 'shocking' the left is only now considering COVID may have come from a lab
Fox News host Greg Gutfeld says it is "shocking" so many liberal viewers were surprised and horrified when one of their icons, comedian Jon Stewart, went on late-night television to argue COVID-19 originated in a laboratory in Wuhan.
In a clip that has been viewed on social media more than three million times, Mr Stewart told "The Late Show" host Stephen Colbert he believed SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the COVID-19, was man-made and spread to humans through a laboratory accident at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
“Oh, my God, there’s a novel respiratory coronavirus overtaking Wuhan, China. What do we do? Oh, you know who we could ask? The Wuhan novel respiratory coronavirus lab. The disease is the same name as the lab. That’s just a little too weird, don’t you think?” Mr Stewart said during the segment.
Up until recently, the lab leak hypothesis was considered a "fringe" theory, with a recent report by the World Health Organisation into the origins of COVID-19 deeming it "highly unlikely" the pathogen originated in a lab.
Mr Gutfield said many liberals were shocked by Mr Stewart because they "live in a bubble".
"I think this was so shocking for Colbert and others because they live in a bubble," he said.
"They haven't heard this opinion, whereas you have heard this opinion, among others, on Fox.
"Anybody shocked by this reveals their ignorance of the topic."
