AstraZeneca no longer recommended for under 60s
The AstraZeneca vaccine is now recommended for people aged 60 and over after the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation reviewed its effects on those younger.
The AstraZeneca vaccine was previously available for those aged 50 and over.
“Pfizer is the preferred vaccine for under 60s,” Health Minister Greg Hunt said.
“It is a change, and we recognise that that does bring some challenges. They will now have access to Pfizer.
“We will have significant volumes of Pfizer coming in over the course of the coming weeks and months, but we do ask for people’s patience on that front. I’d note that the total vaccines are now well over 6.2 million.”
