'Still more work to do' despite unemployment rate dipping to pre-pandemic levels
Minister for Employment Stuart Robert has declared there is “still more to do” despite Australia’s unemployment rate hovering just over five per cent.
Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday show unemployment dropped from 5.5 per cent to 5.1 per cent in May with underemployment also falling by 0.4 per cent.
Although the numbers, Minister Robert says there is “still a lot of capacity” for Australians to find work in the labour market.
“It’s a pleasing set of numbers we are seeing today but, of course, there is still more to be done,” he said.
“Well over a 130,000 more Australians in work now than pre-pandemic.
“The pleasing thing is there are still a lot of capacity in the economy, job advertisements at a 12-year high so there is still enormous opportunity for Australians to find work.”
