初代トポリーノに続く2代目として1957年に登場、丸みのあるユーモラスなフォルムは、設計者のジアコーサ自身が手掛けたものであり、モノコックボディにエンジンの騒音対策としてキャンバストップが標準装備であった。
駆動方式はRR、4速MTを装備していた。

1965年、後ろ開きドアを採用した500Fが登場、搭載される空冷直列2気筒OHVエンジンは、最高出力15hpを発揮し、最高速度95km/hをマークした。

◆アバルト 595 SS（esse esse／エッセエッセ）はスーパースポーツを意味するものであり『FIAT 500』をベースに、アバルトによるチューニングが施されていた。
ツインテールパープを始め、アルミ製のオイルパン、ゴム製のフードストラップ、ボディサイドのストライプ、そしてその存在を主張するABARTHのエンブレムが特徴であり、排気量は594ccに拡大され、様々なチューニングにより最高出力は32hpを発揮し、最高速度は130km／hをマークしたが、当車両はそのレプリカである。

It appeared in 1957 as the second generation following the first generation Topolino. The rounded and humorous form was designed by Giacosa himself, and the monocoque body and canvas top were standard equipment as a measure against engine noise.
