ドーフィンをベースとしたパーソナルカーで、1958年に発表された。ルノーが本格的にアメリカ市場に参入するために計画されたモデルで、戦後のルノーでは初めての2ドアである。

イタリアのカロッツェリア、ギアのピエトロ・フルアがデザインしたボディは2ドアの2シーターで、カブリオレとこれにハードトップを装着した形のクーペがあった。

発売当初、ヨーロッパではフロリード、アメリカではカラヴェルと呼ばれていたが後にカラヴェルと統一された。
