Easy Vegan Chinese Stir-Fry Sauce
I love stir fry because it’s quick and easy to make. This stir fry sauce requires a little more time than others but is so worth it, I promise! It is sweet, sticky, delicious and tastes just like Chinese take-out! And you can always prepare the sauce ahead of time and just throw all the ingredients in a pan when you need a quick week night dinner or after work lunch. To switch things up you can use different veggies, protein, or my favorite: use udon noodles instead of rice. This sauce works with pretty much everything.
recipe:
❁ ingredients:
1 block of medium firm tofu + oil for frying
your favorite vegetables
20 g ginger, roughly chopped
3 cloves of garlic, roughly chopped
1 scallion, roughly chopped
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp vegan fish sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar (or lemon juice)
1 tbsp agave syrup (or brown sugar)
2 tbsp hoisin sauce
1/4 cup boiling water
2 tbsp corn starch
2 tbsp sesame seeds
❁ instructions:
Combine all the ingredients (except for the corn starch) for the sauce in a bowl, stir well and let it sit for about 1 hour or until cold. You can leave the vegan fish sauce out if you don’t have it. Cook your rice according to package instructions. Chop up your veggies. Press the tofu and cut it into bite sized pieces then fry in oil until golden brown and crisp. Remove the tofu from the pan. Add your veggies with some water into the pan and cook until soft. Remove the onion, garlic and ginger from the sauce. Add the corn starch (mixed with 2 tbsp of water in a separated bowl) to the sauce. Add the sauce to your pan and let it caramelize for a bit then add the tofu and keep stirring until everything is coated in the sauce. Add the sesame. Serve over white rice and sprinkle with spring onion. Enjoy!
