These rumors have now been confirmed and the team principals of both teams, Christian Horner and Toto Wolff, have spoken about this during the press conference on Friday and later with Sky Sports

Mercedes Happy Red Bull Distracting Themselves With FIA Complaint

Horner began by explaining that all they want is clarification

“Well, I think, as is the nature with all technical clarifications, they go continually between all the teams. Those classifications are usually to ascertain if something is, in the eyes of the governing body, acceptable as a solution. Of course, if it is you follow suit”

He further pointed out how this isn’t a new thing or something unique to Red Bull

“But we’ve had numerous of those this year with our car and I think it’s something not unique to Red Bull and this topic certainly isn’t unique to Red Bull”

Toto Wolff then revealed when he had come to know about this and reiterated Horner’s views that this is normal

“A couple of days ago. I would wish we had some kind of special solution but it’s the modus operandi in Formula 1, business as usual. Queries are being taken to the FIA, questions are being asked. That’s completely normal”

Later, however, he took a jibe at Red Bull while speaking to Sky Sports

“We love the fact that they are spending time on these things and researching and we welcome very much any inquiry that they wish to do and then look at it. If that is a distraction for the other teams then that is good”

McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl suggested that “if a race cannot happen, which can happen, [they] need to be clear as well on that” [ASN]

“it’s an outdoor sport, we could have, strictly speaking, an entire weekend that is washed away. But let’s say if a race can’t happen, put it clear in the regulations that that you then award at least a few points”

These points could be “based on the qualifying results, maybe half points or whatever. It’s the same as when qualifying can’t happen then you take the free practice result instead”, Seidl added

Lewis Hamilton has stated that “fortunately the British fans don't do booing” [Motorsport]

“The British fans are fantastic. I can't remember ever hearing boos from the British fans during my time in Formula 1. I don't have the best memory, but I'm sure there it never happened”

“I generally don't agree when it happens. We all do our best to give the best performance possible. But as I said, it's part of sport”, Lewis surmised

Toto Wolff has pointed out that “all personalities are different, and also the situation between the two team-mates [depends] on the people and their past” [Sky Sports]

“Something we have learned, I personally have learned, on the Alain Prost situation with Ayrton Senna. I spoke to Prost about it and was learning on the job with Nico [Rosberg] and Lewis”

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner “wouldn’t criticize [his drivers] publicly. You don’t do that. You say it internally. Dirty laundry is done internally” [Motorsport]

Williams driver George Russell feels that Haas’ “Mick [Schumacher] is doing a great job. I was also once in his position where you fight for the last places every race weekend and the car is difficult to drive” [F1 Insider]

“That makes it twice as difficult because a difficult-to-drive car forces you to make mistakes. A top car is wonderful to drive and gives you a lot of confidence”

“In a bad car, on the other hand, it’s easy to make mistakes. That’s why I sympathize with him. But I also see that he has the right attitude and work ethic”, Russell concluded

McLaren’s Lando Norris has pointed out that “it is [his] third year and [he’s] a lot more experienced” [F1]

“But more importantly I have a lot more confidence this year than the last two years. I am just in a better place mentally and in the state of where I am in F1”
Should fans refrain from booing F1 drivers?
