Leclerc Responds To Rumours About Hamilton Joining Ferrari

During the media debrief in Monaco, Leclerc was asked what he looked for in a teammate

He responded by stating

“A fast teammate, as everybody, we are in Formula 1 and we love to be fighting against the best”

He then clarified that this does not mean he is suggesting that his current teammate isn’t fast enough

“But that is not to say that my teammate is not fast”

“Carlos [Sainz] is an extremely fast driver”

“But considering I’m not the person who makes the choices, let’s see”

He then directly addressed the Hamilton rumours

“If I say yes [to welcoming Hamilton], I imagine it will be the title in every newspaper”

“But Lewis is such an incredible driver and has achieved so much in the sport”

“Anybody on the grid will love to have Lewis as a teammate and everybody will learn a lot from him”

He signed off by reiterating that he is happy where he is

“But again, I’m happy with where I am – and with Carlos it is a great relationship to have.”

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton suggested that “a certain individual in this [press] room has written at least one of [the rumours]”

“Maybe with the [Emilia Romagna Grand Prix] being cancelled, they were just bored”

Aston Martin team owner Lawrence Stroll highlighted that “the 2026 regulations will create a reset for all PU manufacturers”

“Honda’s experience and expertise – with the focus on carbon neutrality, sustainability and electrification – are the right match for Aston Martin”

Charles Leclerc thinks that “Red Bull is still the team to beat [in Monaco]”

“With a special lap, maybe we can beat them in qualifying. In the race, they are extremely quick”

“But again, on a track like this, overtaking is very difficult”

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly doesn’t think they’re “miles behind Ferrari and Mercedes”

“Definitely, we’ve got some potential. We need to unlock a bit more from the package we have”

“We’ve got small bits coming here and there. Hopefully, that can close the gap with these guys”

Mercedes driver George Russell feels that the updates show “the trust the team has in [them] as drivers”

“Maybe we will sit here on Sunday night saying, ‘That was a stupid decision’, or we might not”

“But we want to get on with our season”

Red Bull’s Sergio Perez is of the opinion that the Aston Martin-Honda “combination itself is going to be one of the most powerful for 2026”
How likely is a Ferrari win in Monaco?
