Modernism is born by inspiration in forms of nature. In 1890-1910, the bourgeoisie was enriched and wanted pleasure. There were two styles: geometric style and ornamental style (with curved lines). Other names are Art Nouveau (France and Belgium), Modern Style (England), Jugendstil (Germany and North Countries), Sezession (Austria), Nieuwe Kunst (Netherlands), and Liberty (Italy). It is a new art that wants to be young, free and modern, to break with the dominant styles of that time, with both the academicists (historicism and eclecticism) and rupturists (realism and impressionism).
Sculpture is manifestated mostly in decorative arts, as lamps, ceramics and other objects. The central theme was the woman in different attitudes. Many of the artworks don’t have a name, as far as I know.
Émile Fernand-Dubois (France): Devant l’Amour (2 images), Nude woman, Prelude of love
Égide Rombaux (Belgium): Cakewalk, Untitled, Lamp with nymph, First morning, Untitled
Gustav Gurschner (Austria): various lamps (5 images)
Xawery Dunikowski (Poland): many busts (5 images), Madonna, wooden sculptures (4 images)
Spain: these have a name, and they are more traditional. Diosa, Crepúsculo, Juventud by Josep Clarà i Ayats. Dona en repòs by Manuel Hugué. Aurigas olímpicos by Pablo Emilio Gargallo Catalán. Fuente de la doncella, Ángel exterminador by Josep Llimona i Bruguera. Resignación by Enric Clarasó i Daudí. Pau Gil, Marina by Eusebi Arnau i Mascort
Music: Waltz N. 2 by Shostakovich
