In India, civilization began in the middle of the third millennium BCE, in the area of the Indus basin, where perhaps Sumerian influences existed. From the 1500 BCE there was the invasion of the indi, peoples of the aryan race and the indo-european language, from whose fusion with the pre-existing population the Hindu civilization was born. Art in India is a reflection of the society and has a religious character, integrated with nature and the universal order.

Islamic period goes from XIII-XVIII centuries. After a succession of various dynasties, the Mughal Empire happened, and reunified India. The islamists introducted art forms of islamic art.

Indian Garden: as a special mention, I want to talk about the indian garden. There are some flowers that have a strong symbology. These are the lotus, a symbol since the beginning of buddhism. In fact, the position for meditation, called padmasana, is in the form of lotus. The water lily is also very important. When the islamists came to India, there was a mix of cultures. A mix of hinduism and islamism, but also persian. There are remembrances of the Gardens of Babylon, and references to the Garden of Paradise of Koran. So, gardens are a square divided in four squares by two channels, that symbolize the four rivers of paradise, and in the center it's normal to find a construction. This kind of garden is known as chahar bagh, persian garden.
