Shri Muthappan is a deity mainly worshipped in Kannur, Kasargod of Kerala and Kodagu district of Karnataka. However even in Mangaluru, there are two Muthappan Temples, one in Shaktinagar and another in Railway colony near Mangalore Central Ralway station. Similar to Koragajja of Tulunadu, coastal region of karnataka, Muthappan is a deity of common downtrodden people. For any of their problem people vow their offering in the form of dried fish. ಶ್ರೀ ಮುತ್ತಪ್ಪನ್‌ ಮೂಲತಃ ಕೇರಳದ ಕಾಸರಗೋಡು ಹಾಗೂ ಕಣ್ಣೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆರಾಧಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವ ದೈವ. ತುಳುನಾಡಿನ ದ.ಕ, ಉಡುಪಿ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವರೀತಿ ಕೊರಗಜ್ಜನನ್ನು ಆರಾಧಿಸುವರೋ ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ ಜನಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರು ಕಾಸರಗೋಡು, ಕಣ್ಣೂರು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ ಕೊಡಗಿನಲ್ಲೂ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಂಬುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳು ಬಂದಾಗ ಕೊರಗಜ್ಜನಿಗೆ ಹರಕೆ ಹೇಳಿ, ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಬಗೆಹರಿದರೆ ಚಕ್ಕುಲಿ, ಶರಾಬು ನೀಡುವ ಆಚರಣೆ ಇದೆ. ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ ಮುತ್ತಪ್ಪನಿಗೂ ಒಣ ಮೀನಿನ ಹರಕೆ ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ರೈಲ್ವೆ ಸ್ಟೇಷನ್‌ ಸಮೀಪವೇ ಮುತ್ತಪ್ಪನ್‌ ಗುಡಿಯೊಂದಿದೆ. ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೊಮ್ಮೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಣ್ಣೂರಿನಿಂದ ದೈವದ ಕಲಾವಿದರು ಬಂದು ಕೋಲ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಆಸುಪಾಸಿನ ಮಲಯಾಳಿಗಳಲ್ಲದೆ ನಂಬುವ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯರೂ ಸೇರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ನಡೆದ ಮುತ್ತಪ್ಪನ್‌ ಹಾಗೂ ತಿರುವಪ್ಪನ್(ಎರಡೂ ದೈವಗಳು ಹರಿ-ಹರನ ಪ್ರತೀಕ ಎನ್ನಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ) ಕೋಲದ ಚಿತ್ರಣ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
