The Magic Grip Spot

There’s always that perfect place to grip your sticks - The spot where the stick feels right and you’re able to play in the most effortless manner. Maybe you know exactly where that is on your sticks, and you know what I’m talking about. However, there’s a catch. That magic spot doesn’t always stay in one place. Depending on what you’re playing, it can slide up and down the stick. If you find yourself not able to achieve the sound and feel that you desire, it could actually have to do with how you’re holding your sticks. This is REALLY a pretty simple fix. Test out the different “grip spots” we talk about today and find what YOUR magic spots are based on the dynamic you’re playing. Be aware of exactly where you’re holding your sticks at all times. Sometimes they can slide around, which adds an extra level of challenge to all of this. Consistent grip leads to consistent sounds on the kit, so I believe this to be a minute but very important little technique.
