Michael Matheson faces huge suspension over £11k iPad scandal as SNP refuse to back sanction

DISGRACED ex-Health Secretary Michael Matheson should be suspended from the Scottish Parliament for 27 sitting days as punishment for racking up an £11,000 iPad bill, MSPs yesterday said.

Members of the Parly’s Standards Committee also said the Nats MSP should be hit with a financial sanction, with the withdrawal of his salary for 54 days, over the scandal.
MSPs were unanimous in recommending the withdrawal of Mr Matheson’s salary as an MSP for a period of 54 calendar days.

And despite the committee unanimously agreeing that Mr Matheson should also be suspended from the parliament, they did not unanimously agree on how long that should be for, with SNP members attempting to get a shorter suspension period.

However, a proposal by Tory MSP Annie Wells for the ex-minister to be suspended for 27 sitting days - which works out at roughly nine weeks - was ultimately accepted.
