Mr V's Guitar Journ(ey) - Episode 1 - Minor Pentatonic
Mr V's Guitar Journ(ey)
Come with me on this Journ(ey)!
Welcome to the very first episode of my journey from 40-year beginner guitarist to advanced musician. I have been playing the guitar for ~40 years now. I am completely self taught and while my knowledge is diverse and expansive, I still consider myself a beginner. That is primarily for two reasons:
1. I simply have not practiced on a daily (routine) basis. Heck, during my 40 years I have sometimes gone a year or so without picking up my guitar at all.
2. When I do practice, it is usually a specific riff or lick that I already know, or a song that I already know.
The worst part is, that I have practiced box/shape 1 of the Pentatonic Minor for about 32 years. In other words, I am an expert at knowing shape 1 but do not know any of the other position on the entire fretboard!
That's all going to change today! I am committed to buckling down and staying focused on important pieces of music and guitar until I have mastered this instrument. My first step will be memorizing every position of the Minor Pentatonic scale, which will result in me also knowing every note on the fretboard. I believe this is a key foundation of mastering the guitar.
