How to make Classic English Scones | Soft, Light and Fluffy
These Classic English Scones bake up light, tall and fluffy, and are a wonderful treat for breakfast or afternoon tea. Spread them with jam, clotted cream, butter, or simply eat them plain. They are so delicious and easy to make too !
Classic English Scones Recipe (Makes 16 Scones)
Ingredients :
500g Plain Flour
1 tsp Salt
2 heaped / rounded tbsp Sugar
2 tbsp Baking Powder
125g Cold Butter, Cubed
300g Half-and-Half (Half Cream / Half Milk), or u could use just Milk
Topping – Strawberry Jam & Clotted Cream
Methods :
1. Combine flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl. Mix well
2. Add in butter. Toss to break the pieces
3. Using your fingertips, rub the butter and flour together until they resemble fine breadcrumbs (You could use a food processor or a fork too)
4. Add in half-and-half. Stir with a spatula, then when it’s roughly combined, dump it onto a lightly floured surface
5. Knead it until it smooths out a bit, then shape it into a circle
6. Roll the dough about 1/2 an inch thick
7. Use a cutter to cut circles. I don’t have one, so I use a glass
8. Transfer into a lined baking tray and brush tops with egg wash
9. Bake at 200C for 15-18 minutes
10. Serve with strawberry jam & clotted cream. Butter is of course lovely too
