Classic Hong Kong Egg Tart | Chinese Egg Tart | Recipe
Hong Kong Egg Tart Recipe (Makes 8)
Ingredients :
2 cups Plain Flour
2 tbsp Icing Sugar
125g Butter, cold & cubed
1 Egg
120g Sugar
200g Hot Water
200g Evaporated Milk
4 Eggs
1 tsp Vanilla
Pinch of Salt
Methods :
1. Combine plain flour, icing sugar and butter in a bowl. Using fingertips, rub the butter into the flour mixture until resembled fine crumbs
2. 2. Add in the egg. Roughly mix to combine, then transfer onto work surface. Knead till well combined, just for 45 seconds. Cling wrap and chill for an hour
3. Divide dough into 8. Round, roll into circles, and press the dough into the tart moulds
4. Transfer onto a tray and pop in the freezer for 15 minutes. Bake at 180C for 20 mins
5. In a bowl, dissolve sugar with hot water. Add in evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla and salt. Mix to combine and strain the mixture
6. Remove tart shells from the oven, pour in the custard mixture equally into 8 tart
7. Bake at 170C for 40-45 minutes. To check if the egg tarts are ready, insert a toothpick into the centre of the egg tart. If the toothpick can stand upright, the eggs are ready
8. Remove from oven and let chill to room temperature. Enjoy!
