Christmas Fern (Polystichum acrostichoides)

In winter, Christmas Ferns (Polystichum acrostichoides) are one of the most easy to recognize ferns in the eastern United States due to their evergreen nature. They range from southern Canada to northern Florida and West toward Texas. Normally found in forests with humus rich soil, often in areas where the soil has been disturbed, such as along creeks or hillsides. Dark, evergreen fronds make this a valuable native, perennial, ornamental plant that can be used in gardens along borders or in naturalized areas.
