Coontie (Zamia integrifolia)
Nothing like a cycad!... Well, actually, there are many plants that display similar features as Cycads. They are unique though and come from an ancient lineage of plants. They can only be found in a few regions of North America. While uncommon in the wild, Coontie (Zamia integrifolia), is fortunately frequently used in landscape plantings in South Florida. This plant is a host plant for the Atala Butterfly and should be used where appropriate to encourage its well-being.
