Neglect dog needs another chance.

When we first met this 4-year-old Blue Merrel Healer mix, she was chained to a dilapidated dog house. She was one of 16 dogs whose owner faced more than 50 counts of cruelty and neglect.

A few of the charges held.

The dogs disappeared.

A few months later, four of the dogs reappeared when the same humane officer investigated a horse neglect case for the same suspect.

The man had moved four of the dogs into a dark, dirty barn cellar. (It is unknown what happened to the other dogs.)

The owner surrendered the dogs who were all scared of people and unsocialized.

Four Footed Friends in Indiana County, PA opened their shelter and hearts to this dog, now named Spot.

Spot was terrified in the shelter, despite the patience and kindness of shelter staff and volunteers. Very slowly she came out of her shell. The kind people at Four Footed Friends were good to her and taught her about love and trust.

Then, the happy day when Spot found her home.

Because she was still spooky, Animal Friends in Pittsburgh donated a tracking collar in case she got loose from her new home.

Spot did well with her new family and was friendly with the young man and his son. When she gets scared, she ran to her new "dad." She is good with kids, but their loud noises can scare her. Spot showed no aggression toward the cat. But she has a way to go: she still hides in a corner away from noise inside the house.

Spot is housetrained and has had no accidents.

She doesn't play with toys, but treasures them and gathers them around her.

Spot enjoyed going to the dog park and showed no aggression with other dogs, though she hid, ignored the other dogs and did her own thing.

She eats well, like a little lady, in small bites. She gets calming supplement.

Everything was going very well for Spot and her new family but her person had to take another job and travel and can no longer keep Spot.

Four Footed Friends would like to find Spot a home that she can go directly to and not come back into the shelter.

If you are interested in giving a dog a loving home that hasn't known any kindness for most of her life, please contact Four Footed Friends at 724-349-1144. The website is www.fourfootedfriends.org.

Please share this video with anyone who might give Spot a spot in their heart!
