Faith's Journey

Faith’s story began on a frigid winter day when our humane police officer investigated an animal neglect case of nine dogs and seven puppies without adequate shelter.

The call was legitimate, and dog houses were dilapidated -- there was no bedding and one even had a hand-sized hole on one side. Some dogs did not have water.

The officer learned that the dogs were never allowed off their chains, and some tethers were very short.

As she walked up the path by the dog houses, the dogs were either lunging at her, or cowered.

The officer removed one small, thin, anemic white and tan puppy for emergency vet care. The puppy had to have a blood transfusion due to its poor condition. He is now in a happy home.

After the suspect was charged, the dogs disappeared.

However, a few months later on a horse neglect call, four were discovered living in a dark, dirty barn cellar just up the road.

The suspect was again charged and at the hearing he surrendered all animals and agreed to a prohibition of ownership.

The four dogs in the basement went to rescues. All dogs suffered from extreme anxiety and fear of people and are slowly beginning to trust people.

Faith was the last to be surrendered and seemed the most traumatized. She didn’t eat anything for more than a week. She didn’t leave the crate for 5 weeks. She was afraid of everything – she panicked at raised hands or feet, tennis balls, cats, noises.

We didn’t know if we could help her.

However, she began to come out of her shell and gain confidence and trust.

Faith is very loving, and she is extremely submissive.

Through all of this she has never growled, snarled, bitten. She just doesn’t want you to hurt her.

We think her journey has just begun.

Hopefully Faith will find a loving, kind and patient forever home.
