Crows of India: There are 11 species of Crows found in India, the state-wise details are as follows,

Jodhpur (Rajasthan) – Pied Crow
Ladakh – Carrion Crow
Punjab – South Eurasian Raven

Indian Subcontinent – House Crow, Large Billed Crow

11 beautiful species of crows are found in India

Carrion Crows plumage is black with a green or purple sheen, much greener than the gloss of the rook. They are found in Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir and Northern Himalayas.

Eastern Jungle Crow is a subspecies of the large billed crow found in Andaman Islands and North East of India. Note its relatively long, dagger like bill with a curved top.

Eurasian Jackdaws usually nests in cavities, they are found in Jammu and North West Himalayas. Jackdaws are a distinctive, small social crow with contrasting, silvery-gray neck shawl and staring whitish eyes.

Hooded Crows plumage is distinctive, with ashy gray body, contrasting black head, wings, and tail. They are found in the South and North West of India.

House Crow is a slender, blackish medium-sized crow with a long bill found in the Indian Subcontinent. The grayish nape and sides form a paler collar that contrasts with the glossy black body.

Indian Jungle Crow is uniformly glossed in purple and has a longer bill with a fine tip and a less arched beak found in the Himalayan Foothills, West Bengal and North West of India. They differ in voice from the large billed crow.

Large Billed Crow is entirely black with a variable amount of glossiness found in the Indian Subcontinent. They often gang up to attack and chase other birds, especially raptors.

Pied Crow is a handsome black-and-white crow found in Jodhur of Rajasthan. They are strong fliers that will fly high and occasionally soar.

Rooks nest collectively in the tops of tall trees, often close to farms or villages, the groups of nests are known as rookeries. Adults have a distinctive bare area of whitish skin in front of the eye and around the base of the bill. They are found in the North West of India.

South Eurasian Raven is an all-black bird with wedge-shaped tail found in Punjab and North West of India. They are larger than a crow with thicker and longer bill.

Tibetan Raven is the largest and glossiest subspecies of the common raven found in the Himalayas. They have the longest throat hackles.
