Munias of India: There are 8 species of Munias found in India, the state-wise details are as follows,
Central India – Green Munia
Indian Subcontinent – Red Munia, Scaly Breasted Munia, Tricoloured Munia, White Rumped Munia, White Throated Munia
North East India – Chestnut Munia
South West India – Black Throated Munia
Eastern Ghats – Black Throated Munia

8 beautiful species of munias are found in India

Black Throated Munia is found in the earthern ghats and south west of India. Male is black on face, throat, and center of breast; crown to lower back is brown with whitish shaft streaks. Female looks similar, but often more spotted on rump.

Chestnut Munia is a small, plump reddish brown finch with a black head and thick silvery-blue bill. Often seen in flocks, usually in grassy areas, and rice paddies in the North East of India.

Green Munia is a very pretty small finch-like bird with red bill, red eyes, and distinctly barred flanks endemic to Central India. Both sexes look similar, but males have brighter greens and yellows than females.

Red Munia is a strikingly pretty small finch with a red beak found in the Indian Subcontinent. Males are largely red and covered in white spots with dark wings and tail. Females are gray with a rufous rump.

Scaly Breasted Munia, also known as spotted munia are attractive small songbird of grasslands, and agricultural areas found in the Indian Subcontinent. Adults are dark brown above, and white below, with fine dark scaly pattern in underparts.

Tricoloured Munia is a small, finchlike bird of weedy and grassy areas in tropical lowlands found in the Indian subcontinent. Adult is handsome and striking with rusty upperparts. Black head and underparts are cut by a broad white swath from flanks across the lower breast. Note their stout gray bill and a pointed tail.

White Rumped Munia is the only munia with white on the lower back and rump found in the Indian subcontinent. They have a blackish-brown head and back with pure white underparts and rump. Their back is finely streaked with pale shafts.

White Throated Munia is a small, long-tailed finch with a chunky body and short, stout conical silver-grey bill. They are Gray-brown above and pale below with a whitish rump and black-pointed tail found in the Indian subcontinent.
