19 beautiful species of cuckoos are found in India
Asian Emerald Cuckoo is a stunning jewel of a bird, found in dense forests of North East India. Males have vivid, electric green upperparts and black-and-white striped underparts.
Female look similar but have light orange crown and thinly striped face.

Asian Koel is a large cuckoo, adult males are glossy black with dull lime-green bill and ruby-red eyes.
Females and immatures are blackish brown with white dots on the wings and strong streaking on head and throat. Females lay eggs in the nests of crows, shrikes, and starlings.
Banded Bay Cuckoo is a slender brown cuckoo with extensive fine barring and pale face and underparts.

Chestnut Winged Cuckoo is a distinctive, long-tailed cuckoo with a peaked black crest like a witch's hat, bright orange throat, rusty wings, a black back, and white nape and belly.

Common Cuckoo looks extremely similar to various other Cuculus cuckoos; note the combination of white vent, staring yellow irises, and overall large size. They lays eggs particularly in nests of pipits and reed warblers.

Common Hawk Cuckoo is medium-sized resembling a Shikra in plumage. Mainly a brood parasite of babblers.

Fork Tailed Drongo Cuckoo is a glossy small black cuckoo with a forked tail. Juvenile has a galaxy-like smattering of white spots all over the body.

Gray Bellied Cuckoo is rather a small cuckoo. Typical adult is gray all over.
Some females are “hepatic” and ginger-orangish with black barring on the back and on the undersides.

Himalayan Cuckoo male is gray above with a black-and-white-barred belly and a dark gray tail, some females have cinnamon-brown upperparts found in the Himalayan belt.

Hodgson's Hawk Cuckoo, also known as the whistling hawk-cuckoo, is gray above and pale below, with gray and orange blotches and loose streaks on breast found in the North East of India.

Horsfield's Bronze Cuckoo is a small greenish bird with a barred chest and tail, and a dark stripe through the eye that droops down across the cheek.

Indian Cuckoo is a sleek and slender gray-and-white cuckoo. Usually lays eggs in nests of magpies, shrikes, & drongos.

Large Hawk Cuckoos maddening song can be likened to the phrase “brain-FEVER".

Lesser Cuckoo is most often detected by its song “eat-your-choKY-pepper!”

Oriental Cuckoo is a typical gray cuckoo, indistinguishable from Himalayan Cuckoo by plumage, they are best identified by a mellow series of “boop-boop” notes.

Pied Cuckoo is a black-and-white cuckoo with a spiffy crest (also known as the “Jacobin Cuckoo” for its smartly attired appearance.

Plaintive Cuckoo is a small and slender cuckoo, male's accelerating song, decreases in volume as it progresses.
Hepatic, or rufous-morph, individuals are rusty brown above and white below, with black barring all over the body found in the East and North East India.

Square Tailed Drongo Cuckoo is a small, slim black cuckoo rather similar to Black Drongo but smaller, with a curved bill. Adult is black with white bars in the undertail.

Violet Cuckoo is a small, sluggish cuckoo, more often heard than seen. Adult male glossy purple with white-barred belly.
Female is greenish-brown above with curvier and paler barring extending up to the face.
