The Squeaky Wheel is the name given to a numbers station. The site that The Squeaky Wheel broadcasted from is unknown but is said to be near Rostov-on-Dov, Russia. The Squeaky Wheel started broadcasting around the 2000s and was believed to have been ran by the 4th Air Defense Army or the Russian Armed Forces. It broadcasted on frequencies 5473 kHz in the day and 3828 at night. From 2000 until 2008 it broadcasted a sound that was resembled an old squeaky bicycle wheel. From 2008 the tune changed to three high-pitched pulsating sounds instead of one. It is also believed that it is part of a Russian military communications network believed to be operating in the possibly the South military district. It sends a squeaking like signal marker to preserve the frequency for constant use. Every day on occasional times a male or female voice is heard reading out a message which is believed to be codes. The Squeaky Wheel has two sister stations S28 "The Buzzer" and S30 "The Pip." They also transmitted a sound and was believed to have been transmitted from Russia too. The Squeaky Wheel is still active and can be found on Shortwave radio.
When heard, The Squeaky Wheel broadcasts a high-pitched sound similar to an old bicycle wheel and then changed to a high-pitched pulsating sound with three tones. On occasional times a female or male voice is heard reading out a message.
