Duet for Anna Doak
About 1984 I came up with "Seurat" my 1st common tone study . Sounds like Matheany crossed with Post Minimalism . I called it Seurat because the combination of rhythmically driven 3note cells plus the bass function created each separate tonality . Similar to the interaction of discreet dots of color recombining in the viewers eye to form a different 3rd color in the paintings of Seurat. One cell was static and unchanging i.e. composed of common tones forming a central pivot point. So thats the basis of this Duet . This composition has been adjusted however, to utilize the low E string of the Bass and the low G string of the Violin . Anna Doak is a Bassist ,mom ,and good friend living in Seattle.
