Music for Film

Jazz and Classical music has, (for about 50 years) constituted only a minuscule percentage of international music revenues . Therefore by default the only source of musical sophistication that gets mass distribution ,and is generally available to the public at large are the works of TV and film composers . I shudder to think of the world; without any broad based proliferation of intelligent instrumental music .
These composers are I believe largely responsible for keeping the faint glimmer of advanced music in the peripheral consciousness of the general public . I strongly feel that this all by itself qualifies as a great service to us all .; but especially this is a service rendered to the future of creative music . Because before musicians in any genre become creative they are first kids watching TV and movies .
As for me : I know that by Jr. High the the intensely atmospheric incidental music penned by John Barry for numerous Bond films, as well as most Mancini themes and countless TV themes had been hard wired into my skull . What effect this sort of thing has regarding musicians past ,present, and future ,no one knows but I bet it's far greater than anyone suspects .
