Coltrane is simply the inescapable inevitable foregone conclusion of many if not most jazz related inquiries . This is, but one more example .
Like many Coltrane influenced compositions the edge in the music and some of the complexity stems not from the architecture of the tune itself but from the polytonal demands the player places on himself ( go figure ) . In this composition however both situations are in play as the B section is quite harmonically specific and a bit involved .
Some of what I am attempting is (I think) rather unique . Poly melodic-minor over (a pedal i.e common tone) but regardless I am at my ragged edge here for the time being ; while I continue struggling to get on top of this piece of music :-)
PS This particular 3/4 meter is to me most un-waltz like ; more like the rocking of a great ship in a tempest .
