Revisit Lincoln's long lost Thornbridge Hotel, in the right place this time!

This is a remake of my recent video of the long lost Thornbridge Hotel on Waterside South that as predicted created a healthy debate about it's location, and it proved to be in the wrong place.

I'd seen it described as having replaced The Globe pub, which was situated at 30 Waterside South from 1811 to 1939, approximately where I took the new photo from in the original video. But as predicted it turned out to have been closer to Melville Street and the actual Thorn Bridge.

Thanks in particular to John Herridge who provided the proof for the location in the form of the map at the start of the video. This shows the River Witham running horizontally across the map and Broadgate/Melville Street vertically just to the right of centre. The old map overlays the new one, so you can see how the old hotel took up part of the space now occupied by the footbridge over the dual carriageway.

The Thornbridge Hotel was situated on Waterside South, opening in 1940 and closed in 1966, a very short lifespan for a city centre pub. It has since been demolished. Ironically, the buildings that stand there today, and the footbridge, are all due for demolition as part of ongoing developments in the Cornhill Quarter.
