Travel back to the early 20th century to see a lost way of life on St. Nicholas Street, Lincoln.
#lincoln #history #thenandnow #nostalgia #memories
Today finds us on St. Nicholas Street in the labyrinth of terraced streets between Burton Road and Newport. When I found the fantastic undated old photo in this time shift it included the caption "Mr Tye the milkman"
The following info from David Lonergan helps narrow the date down a bit; "In 1939 a David Arthur Tye operated as a Milkman from 64 Gray Street. An earlier news report in 1932 mentions a Miriam Susan Tye of Gray Street with regard to the shortage of fat in the milk they sold. ( Possibly David Tye's Daughter. The same report in 1932 says the Family business had been operating for 25 years". So I'd say the old photo was very early 20th century, which looks about right?
As usual the big glaring difference between the two photos is the number of cars, The houses are more or less the same, apart from the building in the right distance on Spital Street that looks almost new?
