Travel back to WW2 on Lindum Hill, Lincoln

This is a well known view to anyone from Lincoln, looking down the lower part of Lindum Hill towards Broadgate from in front of the Usher Gallery. The Sessions House is off to the left, with St. Hugh's Catholic church partially hidden behind the trees, and the old Constitutional Club on the right. You can just see the South Common in the distance.

The old photo was dated 1940, and shows two Bren Gun Carriers and an AEC Matador lorry leading a military convoy up the hill. When it appeared on a local Facebook history group someone suggested that the uniforms worn by the troops were later than 1940, but I don't know enough to comment, suffice to say that the photo must be early 1940s, during WW2.

It is interesting to see the road before it was dualled, without the central divide, I don't know when that changed.
