‘Risk of shortfalls’ in gas driven by Labor government’s ‘policy assault’
Gas and energy expert Saul Kavonic says the “risk of shortfalls” in Australia’s gas market has been driven by the Albanese government’s “policy assault” on the sector.
A new report from the Australian Energy Market Operator has warned of gas shortages from 2028 in southern states.
“The biggest driver of this has been Labor’s policy assault across multiple fronts on Australia’s gas sector,” Mr Kavonic told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“Back at the end of 2022, when Labor rushed its socialist gas cap policy through Parliament, five days before Christmas without giving anyone time to read it, we talked about how the biggest risk this would pose would be declining investment in Bass Strait and reducing capacity in Bass Strait.
“That is exactly what the government itself is saying is happening and resulting in this risk of shortfalls and the potential that we might need to burn diesel in order to keep the lights on.”
