Cost of Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic Games causing headaches for Miles government
The cost of Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic Games continues to cause headaches for the Queensland government.
Premier Steven Miles has decided to push ahead with plans to upgrade the Queensland Sport Athletic Centre, which is estimated to cost around $1.6 billion.
That is despite an independent review by former lord mayor Graham Quirk finding the project not representing value for money.
The same review found it would cost between $400 and $500 million to upgrade public transport to the venue.
The state government has denied claims it has discussed the possibility of withdrawing from the Games, a decision which could cost taxpayers up to $1 billion.
