Olympic athlete village to forgo air-con to meet green target

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games organisers have decided not to install air conditioning in the athletes’ village as a way to reduce the carbon footprint of the games.

Sky News contributor Prue MacSween has joined Sky News host Rita Panahi to discuss the green move.

“How you can expect your principal performers to operate and run a marathon when they're sweltering in their rooms zapping energy,” Ms MacSween said.

“They’ve got this geothermal energy idea where they somehow cool underneath the village, but their testing was showing if it was 41 degrees outside, it's only going to be 28 degrees in the villages.

“I don’t know about you but if I was lying awake at night in 28 degrees and contemplating on running a marathon I wouldn’t be happy.”
