Drop in unemployment figure a ‘concern’
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says the new unemployment figure is a “concern”.
Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday confirmed a significant fall in the number of Australians out of work, with the seasonally adjusted rate dropping from 4.1 per cent to 3.7 per cent in February.
“The government’s talking it up, of course they would,” Mr Clennell said.
“But … the trend figure’s 3.8 per cent unemployment, that’s a trend figure when they iron out differences in months and all sorts of things.
“That’s not high enough to get inflation between two and three per cent, most economists would tell you.”
