What is cervical spinal stenosis? #spinalstenosis #cervicaldischerniation #neckpainrelief #neckpain

Nerve roots extend from the spinal cord through the openings of each cervical vertebrae.

Intervertebral discs located between the vertebrae prevent friction and allow for smooth movement of the vertebrae.

Spinal stenosis is a condition that is caused by disc degeneration in the cervical spine. This results in the formation of bone spurs which cause the narrowing of the spinal canal and vertebral foramen.

The narrowing of these openings causes compression of the spinal cord and nerve roots. Compression of a cervical nerve root causes motor or sensory deficits in a region supplied by the affected nerve.

Compression of the spinal cord can result in abnormal reflexes, disturbances of balance, and muscle weakness or incoordination.
