'Israel is different to Hamas': Australians urged to avoid 'false equivalences'
Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-CEO Alex Ryvchin says there are those who want us to forget very quickly the scenes of a week ago when a terror attack from Hamas took place in Israel.
Mr Ryvchin joined Sky News to work through the differing political views seen in Australian parliaments and discuss how Jewish people should refuse to “engage in these moral equivalences”.
“They want to draw us into these arguments of root causes and false equivalences and both sides and this sort of nonsense,” he told Sky News Australia host Peta Credlin.
“All decent people will recall what happened, the atrocities that occurred – we certainly will never forget them.
“It is not about harming Palestinian civilians, no one is interested in doing that – that’s why Israel is different to Hamas.
“It’s about returning the captives to freedom – it’s about eradicating Hamas entirely and ensuring in future they never do this sort of thing again.”
