Day 1 Flying into the Wilderness

Well the day came! This nomad got on a plane and then a helicopter to hit the wilds of Northern British Columbia. What a first day it was, still not totally sure what the plan was, I took a leap of faith and made it safe and sound to camp... eventually!!

The flight in was fraught with dangerous and unexpected weather, and a fuel gauge that kept dropping dangerously low! We flew from out last outpost in Smithers, BC to camp flying VFR (visual flight rules) through the valleys to reach a remote landing strip in the wilderness to meet our chopper to take us to our final destination. Down every valley we went, the clouds closed in on us, making it impossible to continue the journey. 4 times we had to turn back and explore other valleys in hopes of finding a break in the weather.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous at points, pulling 2G turns to get out of dangerous situations. Nervous, but loved every second of it!
