Inside The $35 Million Gulfstream G400 Private Jet

The new Gulfstream G400 redefines the large-cabin aircraft class by combining performance and environmental economy. The G400, priced at $34.5 million, will be the entry-level aircraft in Gulfstream’s large-cabin jet family. It will seat up to 12 people in three zones and have an aft lavatory. However, a two-zone, nine-seat version will include both forward and aft restrooms. According to the aircraft manufacturer, breathable seats can sleep up to five passengers.

The almost 42.5-foot-long cabin of the Gulfstream G400 will be lit by ten of Gulfstream’s characteristic broad oval windows. Passengers will have plenty of space in the 1,441-cubic-foot cabin, which has a 6.25-foot height and 7.6-foot width. The G400 will have a cabin altitude of 3,255 feet at FL410 for improved comfort.

The Symmetry flight deck on the Gulfstream G400 will be well-equipped for pilots, featuring an optional head-up display with a new combined vision system that will enable landing in low-visibility circumstances. The twinjet will also have a predictive landing system, which displays the aircraft’s energy condition while on approach and correlates it to how much runway length is required and available to land. If the projected landing distance exceeds the available runway length, the system will alert the pilots visually and audibly to go around.

The Gulfstream G400’s external length is roughly 10 feet less than its G500 twin, at 86.25 feet. The exterior height is 25.33 feet, and the new wingspan is 86.33 feet, which is also 10 feet less than the G500.
The engine will be powered by two 13,496-pound-thrust PW812GA turbofans, which emit 22% less pollution than other engines in their class and fulfill Stage 5 noise requirements. According to Gulfstream, the Gulfstream G400 will be able to ascend directly to 41,000 feet. The maximum cruising altitude is set to be 51,000 feet.

The twinjet will fly 4,200 nautical miles at Mach 0.85 or 3,950 nautical miles at Mach 0.88, permitting nonstop flights from New York to Los Angeles, Lima, Brasilia, Dakar, London, or Moscow. The Gulfstream G400 will fly nonstop from London to New York, Barbados, Lagos, Nairobi, or Delhi. Mach 0.90 is predicted for Mmo.

According to Gulfstream, the G400 will have a 5,000-foot takeoff distance with an MTOW of 69,580 pounds. Other preliminary weights include a maximum zero fuel weight of 47,150 pounds, a maximum payload of 4,050-pounds, and a total fuel weight of 25,350 pounds.

The 4,200-nautical miles Gulfstream G400, developed from the G500/600, was announced recently amid pomp during a ceremony at Gulfstream’s Savannah, Georgia headquarters, and is scheduled to enter service in 2025. Meanwhile, flight testing on the Gulfstream G400 is set to begin in early 2023.
