Inside The $12 Million Gulfstream G100

Inside The $12 Million Gulfstream G100 Private Jet

0:00 - Intro
This is the Gulfstream G100, a mid-size, low-wing private jet that can hold a maximum of 8 passengers and 2 crew, and features a maximum range of about 3,000 nautical miles. The G100 is one of the many aircraft that was designed and produced by Israel Aerospace Industries for Gulfstream. Here is everything you need to know about the Gulfstream G100.

0:32 - Cabin
The Gulfstream G100 interior can be customized to whatever specifications the customer desires. The design and amenities that the aircraft will have, are only limited by cost and cabin space.
In its standard configuration, the G100 offers seating for 7 passengers and is outfitted with a galley and a bathroom, but can seat as many as nine.
Passengers have access to power outlets, a well-equipped galley, and an enclosed lavatory.
With a maximum pressure differential of 8.8 psi, the G100 is capable of maintaining sea-level cabin conditions at an altitude of 23,000 feet.
The G100 offers a generous 42 cubic feet of baggage space in an external compartment, capable of holding up to 370 pounds. If the aircraft isn't equipped with an extension fuel tank, this space increases to 55 cubic feet.

2:31 - Cockpit
The heart of the Gulfstream G100 cockpit is based on the Collins Pro Line 4. The suite boasts four 7.25-inch square displays.
The G100 is also equipped with a dual Global GNS-XES flight management system, which aids in flight planning, navigation, and performance calculations, ensuring optimal flight paths and efficient fuel consumption. The Collins Pro Line 4 suite also ensures that the G100 is equipped with all necessary communication and navigation equipment. This includes advanced communication radios, satellite communication capabilities, and precision navigation tools.
In 2012, the retrofit update program to replace the older models with the newer Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion 21 system was expanded to include the G100. The upgrade replaces the CRT displays with LCD ones and includes Rockwell Collins’ Integrated Flight Information System, which offers pilots high-resolution charts, enhanced navigation maps, and weather data, including NEXRAD. This system has an open architecture, which means it can be upgraded further when newer compatible technology is available.

4:00 - Engine, Performance Specs, and Flying Experience
Now, let’s talk about the engine, performance specifications, and how it flies. The Gulfstream G100 is powered by two Honeywell TFE731-40R geared turbofan engines. These engines are some of the most popular jet engines for business aircraft and are known for their reliability.
Each engine produces 4,250 pounds each, for a total of 8,500 pounds in takeoff configuration at maximum power. When loaded to its maximum takeoff weight of 24,650 pounds or 11,200 kilograms, these engines will get the G100 airborne after a takeoff run of 6,000 feet or 1,830 meters, and requires only 4,400 feet or 1,350 meters of runway to land.
Once airborne, the G100 can climb to a service ceiling of 45,000 feet or 13,716 meters in just 13 and a half minutes, thanks to its climb rate per minute of 3,400 feet or 1,036 meters. Once at altitude, it can be propelled to a maximum Mach number of 0.875 or 583 knots, with an average hourly fuel burn of 200 gallons or 750 liters.
The maximum range of 2,910 nautical miles or 5,390 kilometers was one of the highest when it was introduced in the mid-2000s, and still stacks up well against newer jet aircraft. And finally, the full-fuel payload is 920 pounds or 417 kilograms.

5:39 - History
The IAI 1125 Astra was based on the IAI Westwind business jet, built in the 1960s. The IAI 1125 Astra SPX became the Gulfstream G100 after Gulfstream Aerospace took over marketing for the aircraft in 2001.
Gulfstream began production of the G100 in 2001, after which it enjoyed a six-year run before finally being discontinued in 2006. During its production run, the G100 wasn’t updated or modified in any way. The G100 wasn’t a particularly successful aircraft.

7:42 - Purchase and Charter Price
Back when deliveries began, the list Gulfstream G100 price for a new example was $12 million, however, today the purchase price for a used G100 is $1,500,000 to $2,500,000 before options, and the Gulfstream G100 charter price is estimated at $5,000 to $8,000 per hour. Naturally, prices will vary depending on availability, fuel prices, ground fees, and more.

8:09 - Operating Cost
While the annual fixed cost is roughly $400,000 to $600,000, the average hourly operating cost is estimated at $2,500 to $4,000.
