WEEKEND FORECAST - Hanukkah and Christmas Week Turns Mild; 60s. Fog Possible. (December 12, 2022)

The weekend headed into Hanukkah and then Christmas week remains chilly. Each morning has a potential for freezing temperatures. A Freeze WARNING has been posted for the San Joaquin Valley from 1-8 AM into Sunday. There is a potential for it to get extended into Monday. Be sure to cover any special vegetation and bring in your pets.

Dense fog also plays a roll. Stable air builds over the state. This, combined with recent moisture on the surface will enhance chances of dense fog to form from Fresno to Bakersfield. I expect it to become more of an issue Sunday and Monday.

Stable air builds into California starting Hanukkah and into the Christmas Day. The ridge strengthens to keep the chilly morning air, but also provide milder afternoons. Next Wednesday is the start of the winter season. That is when temps begin to rise above normal due to the ridge strengthening. Afternoon temps are forecast in the mid 60s by Christmas Day.

The ridge blocks any hopes for rainfall. So... don't count on a "white Christmas".

Be sure to dress warmly. Maybe try and ugly Christmas sweater.
