Think Again: The Courage to Rethink | Wang Kevin | TEDxNACIS Shanghai Youth

This talk explores the power of rethinking and advocates thoughtful, open hesitation over blind certainty. We are often trapped by certainty and confirmation bias, we wired our beliefs with our identity, yet the world is ever-changing and yesterday’s truth may not hold today. The core idea is: by asking “What if I’m wrong?”, separating conviction from self, understanding opposing views, and embracing cognitive updates, we keep growing. Real progress lies not in being right at once, but in getting it right over a lifetime. Greetings! I'm Kevin, in Grade 8. For most of my school days, I've been given maps — in textbooks, lessons and advice about 'how things are done.' But I've always wondered… what if the map is wrong? We're told to follow paths others have chosen: get grades, fit into the system. But does success only depend on navigating others' maps? What if the real skill is learning to draw our own? I started questioning why things are set up as they are — in group projects, discussions, or being 'little philosophers.' I realized: the moment you stop following instructions and start asking how you'd redesign them… you stop being a follower and become a director. Today, I'll share how looking at ordinary things in un-ordinary ways helps us redraw the maps we've been given. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
