NOTE FROM TED: The health effects of breast implants remain an ongoing field of study. For more context, see the references below. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. Erica Deligne shares her journey through her breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent decision to forgo reconstruction and “go flat,” challenging deeply ingrained societal expectations around femininity and beauty. She highlights how many women are not fully informed of all their medical options and critiques the pressure to conform to traditional standards, emphasizing autonomy and informed choice. Ultimately, Erica argues that true beauty and confidence come from inner peace, self‑trust, and defining worth on one’s own terms rather than society’s expectations. Erica Deligne is a fashion and brand consultant, creative entrepreneur, breast cancer survivor, and advocate dedicated to redefining beauty and empowering women to embrace confidence from within. She launched Delightfully Deligne in 2014, blending her years of experience in retail and fashion with a passion for helping women express their authentic style. After choosing to heal as a flat-chested survivor following her 2021 diagnosis, Erica expanded her platform to merge fashion with purpose-driven advocacy, creating a space where style, self-acceptance, and education intersect. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
